01

Busbar compartment

A continuous compartment along the switchgear houses the main electrolytic-copper busbars. Branch connections link them to the circuit-breaker’s upper isolating contacts.

02

Cable compartment

Flat electrolytic-copper branches connect the power cables to the circuit-breaker’s lower contacts. The compartment accommodates the earthing switch, current transformers and fixed voltage transformers. Single- or three-core cables, up to four per phase, can be used depending on voltage, unit dimensions and cable cross-section.

03

Circuit-breaker or contactor compartment

Single-pole epoxy-resin bushings connect the apparatus to the busbar and cable compartments. Metal shutters operate automatically as the truck moves. The optional fail-safe device prevents manual shutter opening when the withdrawable apparatus is absent. Padlocks are available on the upper shutters, lower shutters or both.

04

Auxiliaries and measurement

The low-voltage compartment houses instruments and auxiliary circuits. A separate compartment for withdrawable voltage transformers with fuses can be included. Typical units may contain up to seven compartments separated by metal partitions.

Straightforward installation

Cubicles are factory-assembled and tested: on site, they are secured to the floor, coupled and connected to external circuits.

Custom extensions

Adaptation units allow extensions to existing switchgear, including other manufacturers’ or discontinued equipment. Front-only access is available as an option.

Insulation and accessibility

Reinforced insulation of live parts and readily inspectable segregated compartments. Circuit-breakers, instrument transformers and terminals are accessible for inspection and maintenance.

03 / APPARATUS AND INTERLOCKS

SWITCHING, MEASUREMENT.
PROTECTION.

Circuit-breakers, contactors and instrument transformers. Explore their functions and interlocks.

01

Withdrawable circuit-breakers

Vacuum circuit-breakers with mechanical or magnetic actuators, and SF6 circuit-breakers. The truck allows racking-in and racking-out with the door closed. The metal structure supports the poles, operating mechanism and moving-contact drive.

02

Vacuum contactors up to 12 kV

Withdrawable devices for loads requiring frequent operation. A resin monobloc houses the vacuum interrupters, moving parts, mechanism, multi-voltage supply and accessories, and supports the fuses. Closing is prevented if a fuse is missing; operation of any of the three fuses automatically opens the contactor.

03

Earthing switch

Available in the cable compartment or on the main busbars of measurement and bus-tie units. It has short-circuit making capacity, front manual operation and a mechanical interlock with the circuit-breaker truck. Position is shown by a front mechanical indicator; key or electromechanical locks are available on request.

04

Current and ring-core transformers

Single-phase epoxy-resin CTs, normally on the load side of the apparatus, with a wound primary and one or more secondary cores. Burdens and accuracy classes suit the measurement and protection requirements. A capacitive socket for voltage indication is available. Closed- or split-core ring transformers normally detect earth-fault current.

05

Voltage transformers

Single- or two-pole epoxy-resin VTs for measurement and protection, with burdens and accuracy classes suited to the connected instruments. Withdrawable trucks are fitted with MV protection fuses. Metal separation from the other compartments allows fuse replacement while the switchgear remains in service.

06

Voltage presence indication

Lamps indicate voltage on the MV side. The signal comes from post insulators with capacitive sockets or the capacitive screen in the current transformers.

FOR THE DESIGNERInterlocks. Operation by operation.
  • Circuit-breaker closing only in the connected or isolated position.
  • Racking-in and racking-out prevented with the circuit-breaker closed.
  • Door opening prevented with the circuit-breaker connected or in an intermediate position.
  • Racking-in prevented with the compartment door open.
  • Anti-racking-in lock for a circuit-breaker with a lower rated current than the cubicle.
  • Earthing-switch closing prevented with the circuit-breaker connected or in an intermediate position.
  • Circuit-breaker racking-in prevented with the earthing switch closed.
  • Feeder door opening prevented with the earthing switch open.
  • Earthing-switch opening prevented with the feeder door open.
  • Connected/isolated position signalling contacts.

FOR THE DESIGNERDucts: extensions, supports and exhaust area
  • The metal roof duct collects gases and normally extends at the right and left ends of the switchgear. The recommended arrangement carries the exhaust outside the substation.
  • Where outlets face accessible areas or installed equipment, ducts must be extended to zones that do not endanger people or machinery.
  • Extensions must have at least the same cross-section as the switchgear ducts, withstand at least 80 kPa and be properly supported. Bends must be limited to necessary cases and use the largest practicable radius.
  • The exhaust area must be protected from access by people. Channel outlets must prevent entry of water, dust, small animals and foreign bodies.

09 / FAQ

PROJECT QUESTIONS.
CLEAR ANSWERS.

Information to support the selection of your medium-voltage solution.

Let’s discuss your plant ↗
When should I choose LHX 2.0 UniSafe for primary MV distribution?

It is ICEL’s air-insulated medium-voltage switchgear for indoor installation and primary distribution. It is classified LSC2B-PM and includes 12, 17.5 and 24 kV versions for feeders, generators, transformers, motors and capacitor banks.

Explore the details
Which functional units are available?

The range includes IF and IFM incoming/outgoing units, BT and BTM bus-tie units, BR and BRM bus-riser units and M measurement units. Measurement versions and dimensional combinations are listed in their respective tables.

Explore the details
What does LSC2B-PM separation provide?

The busbar, circuit-breaker and cable compartments are separated. LSC2B allows access to the circuit-breaker compartment while busbars and cables remain energised; PM identifies metallic partitions and shutters.

Explore the details
Which type tests and checks are documented for LHX 2.0 UniSafe?

The catalogue states that type tests were performed at CESI and ABB laboratories and lists standards, standard tests and internal arc classification. It also describes factory checks of construction, mechanical and electrical sequences, wiring, insulation and dielectric withstand. Documentation must be related to the voltage, unit and supply configuration.

Explore the details
How are cables connected in IF and IFM units?

The conventional arrangement uses bottom cable entry. Top cable or busbar entry can be studied with ICEL case by case. Deeper versions from 2,000 to 2,300 mm are available.

Explore the details
Which apparatus is used in the licensed ABB medium-voltage solution?

LHX 2.0 UniSafe is part of ICEL’s MV range using licensed ABB technology. Withdrawable vacuum or SF6 circuit-breakers are available. Vacuum circuit-breakers may use mechanical or magnetic actuators. Withdrawable vacuum contactors with fuses are also available up to 12 kV. Combinations are checked against the tables for the specific unit.

Explore the details
Do the listed weights include the apparatus?

No. The weight table excludes circuit-breakers, contactors, voltage and current transformers, measuring sensors and auxiliary apparatus.

Explore the details
Which room constraints are needed to design the installation?

Send the room layout and height, access routes, cable routing and gas-exhaust options. The catalogue distinguishes exhaust ducts and chimneys and lists different clearances by voltage and configuration. Clearances are selected for the proposed solution, together with unit dimensions and operating space.

Explore the details
What should I send for an LHX 2.0 UniSafe quotation?

Start with the single-line diagram, voltage, rated current, short-circuit level and unit functions. Add protection and metering requirements, cable data, room constraints and the specification. ICEL checks the configuration against the catalogue tables and develops the technical proposal.
